Ensemble Avalon is a fresh and dynamic piano trio, featuring three of Ireland’s finest internationally accomplished soloists and chamber Musicians – Ioana Petcu-Colan (violin), Gerald Peregrine (cello) and Michael McHale (piano). With a programme including Haydn, Bax, Beethoven and Bernstein, this is a concert is not to be missed.
Since their inaugural concert together in 2006, Ensemble Avalon have enjoyed a number of successes including two critically acclaimed concert tours, a performance in Italy and a full concert broadcast on RTE Lyric FM. Ensemble Avalon come together to explore and perform a diverse programme of existing and new piano trio works in concert. The trio has recently completed a very successful series of concerts at the Hugh Lane Gallery Dublin and their next project is the Avalon Winter Chamber Festival 2008 themed “Beethoven and Bax”.
An Irish violinist of Romanian origin, Ioana Petcu-Colan has been described as “a model of musicianship and insight” and is an established soloist and chamber musician based in Barcelona. Gerald Peregrine is the youngest member of a well-known Irish musical family. At eighteen he was awarded a foundation scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music London and in 1996 Gerald won the Sting Category of the RTE young musician of the future. One of the leading young Irish pianists of his generation, Michael McHale’s playing has been described as “instantly engaging” (The Times). He has performed throughout the UK and Ireland, all over Europe and in the USA. Recent engagements include solo recitals in Washington D.C and in the National Concert Hall, Dublin.
